A new casting update (via IMDB) to the anticipated film reveals that Ty Simpkins is expected to return to the fold, who hasn’t been seen since his turn as Harley Keener in Iron Man 3. Fans will know Keener as the sarcastic young whiz kid who Stark encounters after his suit is heavily damaged. Keener actually helps him get it up and running, and the two form a friendship by film’s end.

What this means for the plot is unknown, but some are theorizing that it has something to do with Stark passing the torch to Keener in some way. While Simpkins is older now, he still might be too young for that. Still, you never know, and Stark has likely kept an eye on him since the events of Iron Man 3.

Simpkins has kept quite busy since Iron Man 3, with parts in Insidious: Chapter 2, Jurassic World, and The Nice Guys. Could Avengers 4 be a way to introduce him into the fold as a permanent fixture? Who knows, but fans will be glad to have him back regardless.

Simpkins will be glad to be back as well, as during filming of Iron Man 3 he explained why he idolizes Iron Man above other superheroes.

“Because he doesn’t have any superpowers,” Simpkins told EW. “The Hulk has an awesome superpower. He turns into this giant monster that can eliminate several dudes at once. Then Captain America can take out five bad guys just going like that” โ€” he slices his arm through the air as if holding Cap’s most iconic accessory โ€” “and throwing his shield. But then Iron Man โ€” he can take out even more guys with those little missile things that come out of this shoulders. He can fly and he doesn’t have any superpowers. He’s smart. He has a suit, and it’s really cool.”

Hmm, seems like he’s already ready to take on the mantle, doesn’t it?

There’s plenty to get to before Avengers 4 though, including the upcoming Avengers: Infinity War, which hits theaters on May 4, 2018.
