According to previous reports, Downey took the line from a real-life saying he had with one of his children. The now-iconic line was one of a few things Tony Stark/Iron Man (Robert Downey Jr.) said in Avengers: Endgame that will live on in pop culture for eternity. The other line — Stark's fatal "I am Iron Man" line — was something that came relatively late in the process. In fact, the Joe and Anthony Russo were working on putting the final touches on the film when Endgame editor Jeff Ford brought up the iconic line from the original Iron Man (2008).

"Tony used to not say anything in that moment. And we were in the editing room going, 'He has to say something," the Russos recently admitted during a Q&A for the film. "This a character who has lived and died by quips.' And we just couldn't, we tried a million different last lines. Thanos was saying 'I am inevitable.' And our editor Jeff Ford, who's been with us all four movies and is an amazing storyteller, said 'Why don't we just go full circle with it and say I am Iron Man.' And we're like, 'Get the cameras! We have to shoot this tomorrow.'"
