Logan Originally Planned To Feature Sabretooth

Today, the first screenings of Logan will begin around the U.S., and fans are feeling plenty of emotions over the flick. The much-anticipated film will bid farewell to Hugh Jackman's iteration of Wolverine as the star bows out of the X-Men Cinematic Universe. For his last hurrah, the Australian actor wanted to say goodbye to Logan by giving the film all he had, and its script was tinkered around with before a final draft was completed. Now, one of the screenwriters for Logan is talking about the film's earlier drafts, and it seems a familiar X-Men villain was meant to appear in it.

Speaking to CinemaBlend, Scott Frank said there were originally plans for Sabretooth to appear in Logan. A sequence about halfway through the film would reintroduce the character when Logan, X-23, and Professor Xavier go on a road trip.

"There was a moment when we were thinking about, as I recall, Jim [Mangold] had an idea where when they were on the run, and they go to the gambling town, there may have been at that point they were going to see [Sabretooth] for help," Frank said. "

He was going to be there for help. Now that you mention it! I wouldn't swear to it, but we thought that would have been an interesting thing to do. And then for whatever reason we didn't do it."

Reading the scene description, it would have been interesting to see Sabretooth fit into Logan in such a way. The antagonistic mutant was not the most loving sibling towards Logan, so to hear the group seeking out Sabretooth for help is a bit out-of-character. But, with the mutant race all but extinct in Logan, anything could be possible for the hot-blooded villain.

Earlier today, the actor behind Sabretooth did publicly confess his admiration for Jackman on social media. Liev Schreiber took to Twitter, writing, "Thank you so much for showing me the ropes and inviting me to be a part of it. Love you brother." The actor was tapped to play Sabretooth in X-Men Origins: Wolverine where the character's rivalry with Logan was explored.

Logan takes place in the year 2029, where mutant births have become extremely rare. The defenders of mutant kind, the X-Men, are long gone, and the only remains of them are an old and struggling Charles Xavier and a weary Logan. Logan's vaunted healing factor has slowed, and at times doesn't seem to work at all. When a young mutant needs his help, Logan has to unsheathe his claws once more. His job isn't over yet.

Logan stars Hugh Jackman (Logan), Boyd Holbrook (Donald Pierce), Patrick Stewart (Charles Xavier), Dafne Keen (Laura Kinney/X-23), Doris Morgado (Maria), Stephen Merchant (Caliban), Elizabeth Rodriguez (Gabriela), and Richard E. Grant (Dr. Zander Rice). James Mangold is directing and helped on the screenplay along with Scott Frank and Michael Green.

Logan hits theaters on March 3, 2017. If you are excited for the film, then let us know with our Anticipation Rankings below! The movie is currently #3 on all of ComicBook.
