Marvel's Agents of SHIELD is just one week away from returning to ABC with a new "LMD" storyline, and a new ad for the show lets fans know that the people behind Agents of SHIELD have done their homework.
The ad features Agent Melinda May (Ming-Na Wen), or at least someone or something that very closely resembles Agent May. Fans will remember that the midseason finale episode of Agents of SHIELD Season 4, "The Laws of Inferno Dynamics," revealed that Aida, the life model decoy created by Doctor Holden Radcliffe, has kidnapped May and replaced her in SHIELD with another LMD built with May's appearance.

The ad show's "May" with the text "Strange Tales" above her and the logo for Marvel's Agents of SHIELD: LMD below, including the show's return date and time. There's also the number "135" embedded in the background design of the logo.
Marvel fans will recognize "Strange Tales" as the title to one of Marvel's earliest Silver Age comic book series. Strange Tales usually featured multiple stories and was the comic book that Doctor Strange first appeared in.
But the number "135" points to a specific issue of Strange Tales. Strange Tales #135 was arguably one of the most important issues in Marvel Comics history. The story brought Nick Fury into the modern era, introduced both SHIELD and Hydra, and was the first appearance of a life model decoy.
In Strange Tales #135, Col. Nick Fury is invited to the Pentagon. LMDs of Fury are then used to distract Hydra agents who are attempting to assassinate him. When Fury finally reaches his destination, he meets Tony Stark and is told all about SHIELD. Fury is asked to take over as SHIELD's director and lead the fight against Hydra. Fury is reluctant at first, but after discovering a Hydra bomb meant to take him and other high-ranking officials out, Fury decides to take the job.
The first appearance of a life model decoy is an obvious connection between Agents of SHIELD and Strange Tales #135. It seems unlikely that Agents of SHIELD will bring any other elements of the issue into the second half of Season 4, such as a cameo by Nick Fury or Tony Stark or the return of Hydra, but one never can be sure about these things.
