The Chinatown gang is in a panic. One thug demands to see Eli. The thug tells him SHIELD and the cops are all over the place. Eli says he pays them to keep SHIELD busy. The thug notes that none of them have gotten paid. Eli pays the thug by filling his body with “diamonds.” Eli is busy building some kind of giant, box-like device.

Director Mace calls into a news broadcast to tell them that that SHIELD is pursuing an escaped suspect. The reporter asks if the suspect is Quake, but Mace doesn’t answer. Coulson and May inform Mace of the situation.Mace notes that they can’t be seen aiding Reyes or Daisy, but Coulson says they need their biggest guns, including Reyes, Quake, and Yo-Yo. Mace asks about AIDA. Coulson comes clean and tells Mace that AIDA is an android. Mace points out that goes against the Sokovia Accords and reminds them all of Ultron. Mace says he wants AIDA on this mission and that they’ll dismantle her afterward. He greenlights Coulson’s assault team but warns him to keep Quake out of sight.

Privately, Coulson tells May that he’s hoping to get Mace to fill them in on what’s happening with Senator Nadeer. May has been tasked with collecting AIDA. Coulson promises that they’ll open that special bottle when this is all over.

Mack and Robbie prepare to go in. They both hope that Ghost Rider will leave them once the mission is done. Fitz and Simmons note that Marrow’s powers are scientifically impossible, that you can’t create something out of nothing. They read a new earthquake on their sensors, but Quake tells them it wasn’t her. Quake, Yo-Yo, and Robbie head inside Morrow’s facility.

Slingshot speeds inside to do some recon. She steps in a trap that sets the hallways on fire. She runs back but isn’t fast enough. She gets caught in the blast and gets sent back out into the alleyway, where she hits the far wall. Robbie heads inside.

Radcliffe meets with Mace. Radcliffe defends his creation of AIDA and promises to cooperate from here on out. Mace asks about the arch gateway they built to generate the portal. Mace asks if it came from the Darkhold and wants to know more about it. Mace says AIDA’s fate depends on her next mission.

Mack helps tend to Yo-Yo’s wounds. Daisy and Coulson watch the feed through a camera on Robbie. Some thugs attack Robbie, but he handles them without much of a problem. Robbie finds the device Morrow was building. Fitz notes that it looks like a giant version of the Quantum Labs power device and that Morrow has created a giant battery for himself. Robbie enters the device. Fitz notes that Morrow seems to be growing his abilities to create other elements besides carbon. He also says the device is a trap.

Morrow finds Robbie and tells him to go home. Robbie begins transforming and Eli impales him with carbon.

Fitz tells them the device in the box is a Demon Core, a fuel cell and/or failsafe. It powers both the cell and Eli. If the lid drops, it triggers a nuclear bomb created by Eli’s own plutonium.

Robbie and Eli argue about whose fault it was for the hit on Robbie and Gabe and everyone who has died since then. Eli says he is becoming a god. Robbie warns that he’ll need to be because the devil is coming for him. He tries to transform into Ghost Rider, and Eli impales him again.

Mace brings Radcliffe and AIDA to meet with Coulson. Mace is ready to show the public the director of SHIELD in action. FitzSimmons fills Daisy in on how they feel about Mace. Mace wants to send Yo-Yo in to grab the bomb. Mack argues. Coulson pulls Mace aside.

Daisy feels a quake coming. Fitz says the epicenter is where Eli has set up shop. Fitz realizes that Morrow isn’t creating anything, but pulling it from somewhere else.

Mace and Coulson argue about how SHIELD is being run. Coulson brings up Nadeer and Daisy shows up to join in. Mace tells them about the photos of Daisy that Nadeer has. Daisy adds that Fitz figured out how to stop Eli.

Morrow can now create water, which is a compound and not a base element and is the next step in his plan to create life. Coulson arrives and calls him a petty thief. The guards took the only weapon he had on him, which was a chain.

Beneath them, Quake clears house and Radcliffe and FitzSimmons prepare AIDA to activate a device like the EMP the Watchdogs used in order to shut down Eli.

Robbie tells Coulson that he feels like he did in the “other place,” like something is pulling at him. Coulson tells Eli that he’s stealing energy from another dimension. Every time he takes energy it causes a seismic rift. Coulson realizes that the bomb is Morrow’s endgame, but Eli doesn’t think he’s going to die. He believes he can create life out of death. Coulson tells the team they need to go.

Robbie calls on the Ghost Rider again and Coulson calls in the rest of the SHIELD team, including Mace in a new set of body armor and Yo-Yo at full speed, rearranging things as she sees fit, including sticking Morrow with an explosive device that knocks him into his own cell, allowing Robbie to transform into Ghost Rider fully. A portal opens in the cell.

A henchman finds his way downstairs and fires at FitzSimmons, but Aida steps in the way of the bullets.

The SHIELD team clears house and Coulson tosses Ghost Rider a chain to help pull him away from the portal. Rather than allowing Morrow to escape, Ghost Rider lets go of the chain and holds Morrow in the cell as it disappears.

AIDA is in pain, part of her programming as a decoy. Daisy runs outside, as the tremors are too much for her. Outside, she uses her powers to thrust herself into the air and then lands and the press surrounds her. Mace comes to her defense, saying that “Agent Johnson” saved them all.

On the Zephyr, Quake tells Coulson that they need to get the Hell Charger to Gabe, but Coulson says not to count out Robbie. Daisy is uneasy about returning to SHIELD but admits there are things, people, she’s missed. Coulson implies to Daisy that he wanted her to become the director of SHIELD. She replies with, “Maybe in the comic book version.”

Mack tries to patch things up with Yo-Yo. He tells her that he went to a bad place and wants to talk. Yo-Yo is frustrated with Mack’s indecision about the relationship. He kisses her as Daisy and Coulson walk by.

The team regroups as a whole in front of the TV. Mace told the news that Johnson was undercover and never really an outlaw. Simmons gives Daisy her official lanyard.

Off to the side, Mace talks to Radcliffe about AIDA. Mace agrees to keep Radcliffe’s program alive, however now it will all take place at the base under SHIELD supervision.

Mace sent an agent to Radcliffe’s home to retrieve his research. A door opens. He sees something inside, but AIDA finds him there and snaps his neck.

Later, AIDA returns to the room to clean up Agent May, who is still inside.

Meanwhile, Coulson talks to replacement May and shares a drink.
