In the present day, Coulson and Mack question Joeseph, but he’s having the same fearful hallucinations that May and Chen had after contact with Lucy. He tells them that he buried the Darkhold back where he found it. Lucy has already recovered the Darkhold. Joseph senses it just before he dies. Lucy opens the Darkhold, but the pages fade away in front of her eyes.

On Zephyr One, Coulson doesn’t want to tell Director Mace about the Darkhold because he’s not sure they can trust him. Mack wants to go talk to Morrow again. Coulson is going to take Morrow out of prison. Robbie wants to go with them, but after arguing Coulson make sit clear that he’s to stay on the Zephyr.

Robbie fumes and talks to Daisy, but she tells him that he’s better off trusting SHIELD. Robbie isn’t convinced that Daisy trusts SHIELD herself.

Fitz is trying to talk to Simmons, but she’s too concerned about how much she has to hide from the Director during her lie detector test. She’s angrier that Fitz kept secret from her than anything else, and now she’ll probably be fired for it. Fitz offers stay behind and help her prepare for the test, but Simmons tells him to go help Coulson.

May and Coulson arrive at Southridge. They bicker back and forth comparing their near-death โ€“ or outright death โ€“ experiences. They meet with the Warden, but May senses something is wrong. The warden is being influenced by Lucy. He pulls out a shotgun and attacks and the guard joins him. May and Coulson fight them off, with Coulson making use of his hard light hand shield. They barricade themselves in the Warden’s office and contact Mack for help with extraction.

Robbie wants to join the extraction effort. Mack resists, but Daisy backs Robbie up. Daisy puts on some new and improved Quake gauntlets, though she says she won’t risk using her powers. Fitz is going to be playing “coach” on the Zephyr One but gives the team a case full of antidotes for the ghosts’ paranoia effects.

Simmons takes her lie detector test. She’s asked but sensitive information and hesitates. The director arrives and tells Simmons to come with him.

Inside Southside, Robbie trades barbs with a prisoner. Mack makes clear that if Robbie loses control of Ghost Rider he will be shot.

Daisy meets up with Coulson and May. They head for Morrow’s cell and walk past several imprisoned Watchdogs. Daisy realizes this must be how they’re recruiting. Lucy opens the cells. Fitz unlocks the doors and everyone scatters.

Mace questions Simmons. Simmons tells Mace that she can be trusted and Mace takes her at her word. He then asks for help debating Sen. Nadeer about Inhumans on cable TV. Simmons will be speaking in Mace’s ear via comm.

Robbie tells Mack that he doesn’t want Morrow to know about Ghost Rider. They’re attacked by a ghost. Robbie grabs a chain and uses it to burn through the ghost. Another ghost phases into the room and through Mack. Mack tries to fend it off, but it is Robbie who burns the ghost away. Mack realizes he is infected and doses himself with Fitz’ antidote.

Mace’s debate with Nadeer begins. Mace is introduced as a “patriot” who was at the UN bombing in Vienna (Captain America: Civil War). Mace handles the debate well until Nadeer brings up the ongoing prison operation that Mace wasn’t aware of. He tries to cover and keep straight-faced.

The Watchdogs chase Daisy, May, and Coulson. Daisy and May get outside the cafeteria and Daisy locks them out while she battles the Watchdogs on her own.

Robbie and Mack find Eli. They blow his cell door. Morrow is hesitant to go with SHIELD, but when he hears the Lucy is there, incorporeal, and has the Darkhold, he agrees.

Nadeer calls out Mace personally as not the man for the job of leading SHIELD and protecting humanity from Inhumans. Despite Simmons’ cautioning him to stick to the facts, Mace goes public about being an Inhuman.

May admits to Coulson that she saw him just before she died, and they make their way up through the trash chutes to the cafeteria just in time to save Daisy. She’s angry and says she didn’t ask for help.

Lucy is angry when she finds Morrow’s cell empty. A prison riot has broken out. Robbie passes the inmate he talked to earlier. He tells Morrow to keep going while he goes back to satisfy Ghost Rider’s thirst for vengeance on the gangster. The prisoner says he’s reformed. Robbie remembers the hit the criminal ordered on himself and Gabriel, leaving Gabe paralyzed. The man says it wasn’t him who ordered the hit, but now no one will ever know who it was because all of the Fifth Street Locos were killed by Ghost Rider. Robbie transforms into Ghost Rider and burns the Locos leader. As he walks out of the prison, the prisoners all lock themselves back in their cells.

SHIELD arrives en masse to contain the prison situation, but no one knows what happened to Morrow. Lucy catches up with Morrow and takes him hostage.

Mace meets with Simmons and thanks her for her help. However, her polygraph showed irregularity. Mace wants Simmons to take it again. Simmons calls him out on lying about being a hero in Vienna, and Mace exempts Simmons from future lie detector tests.

May finds Daisy sitting alone in the hanger. May tells her the aloof act doesn’t work because Coulson cares and he doesn’t give up on the people he cares about. May tells Daisy that Lincoln wouldn’t want Daisy killing herself over what happened. Daisy says she’s seeing this operation through and then she’s gone.

Coulson tells May that they found Morrow on the camera footage being taken away by Lucy in an ambulance.

Lucy returns with Morrow to their lab. She needs Morrow to read the Darkhold because she can’t. She wants them to fix her and then to finish what they started. Morrow opens the Darkhold and the words return.

Mace meets in a car with Senator Nadeer. She shows him camera footage she found of the operation at Southside, including footage of Coulson and May with Daisy, Ghost Rider, and Ghost Rider’s charred victim. She warns that this footage will go to ABC News in two hours. Mace asks what Nadeer wants.
