Next year’s Avengers: Infinity War is set to bring together many of the Marvel Cinematic Universe’s characters. But according to Guardians of the Galaxy writer/director James Gunn, one integral character from his corner of the MCU will be missing from the proceedings.
Gunn recently revealed on Twitter that Adam Warlock will not be appearing in Infinity War, or the as-yet-untitled Avengers 4.

There is definitely no Adam Warlock in Infinity Wars. After that, youโll have to wait and see.

This might come as a surprise to fans of the Infinity War comic storyline, as Adam plays a significant part in the whole ordeal, even wielding one of the Infinity Stones.
Nevertheless, it’s clear that Gunn and Marvel Studios want to take the time to properly introduce Adam, instead of attempting to do so in the already jam-packed cast of Infinity War. Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige even echoed this sentiment back in April, hinting that the cosmic character will probably debut in Guardians 3 instead.
Avengers: Infinity War hits theaters May 4, 2018.

As the Avengers and their allies have continued to protect the world from threats too large for any one hero to handle, a new danger has emerged from the cosmic shadows: Thanos. A despot of intergalactic infamy, his goal is to collect all six Infinity Stones, artifacts of unimaginable power, and use them to inflict his twisted will on all of reality. Everything the Avengers have fought for has led up to this moment – the fate of Earth and existence itself has never been more uncertain.
Avengers: Infinity War is described by Marvel Studios as the culmination of everything in the Marvel Cinematic Universe since Iron Man in 2008. The movie is filming now under directors Anthony and Joe Russo, from a screenplay by Christopher Markus and Stephen McFeely.
The expansive confirmed cast includes Robert Downey, Jr., Chris Evans, Chris Hemsworth, Mark Ruffalo, Jeremy Renner, Scarlett Johansson, Tom Holland, Elizabeth Olsen, Paul Bethany, Sebastian Stan, Benedict Cumberbatch, Benedict Wong, Chris Pratt, Zoe Saldana, Karen Gillan, Vin Diesel, Dave Bautista, Bradley Cooper, Pom Klementieff, and Josh Brolin as the villain Thanos.
