In the world of Hollywood, it may seem like money is of no object. With star-studded casts lining monthly blockbusters, studios like 20th Century Fox and Marvel have put plenty of coin into their cinematic ventures. While many films are able to recoup their expenses, fans are still stunned to see the number of zeroes attached to their favorite movie’s budget. And, now, fans of the Marvel Cinematic Universe will be doing a double-take when they hear the reported budget for Avengers: Infinity War.

The insanely massive feature finally began production this year as the Russo Brothers rallied cast members down in Atlanta. Stars like Robert Downey Jr. and Scarlett Johansson will reprise their famous role, and the film is set to also include other heroes like the Guardians of the Galaxy, Doctor Strange, and Spider-Man. Not only with the cast itself be a pricey one to roll dice with, but the scale of the film is hugely international. The film is currently shooting on-location in the U.K.
Even so, the rumored budget of the feature will take fans back. During a recent luncheon hosted by the African American Film Critics Association, the co-owner of Pinewood Studios gave a small speech. As the studio acts as the home-base for Avengers: Infinity War, plenty were interested to hear what Dan Cathy had to say. It was there that the co-owner said the company’s Atlanta location was now hosting a production with a $1 billion budget. Of course, Cathy was unable to reveal what the project was, but fans can take a good guess.
Currently, the Atlanta location is only hosting one film that could require such a massive budget. Black Panther is still finishing production at the studio, but the standalone is thought to have a budget similar to other solo flicks, leaving it at around $150-250 million max. So far, it seems like Avengers: Infinity War has a truly insane budget on-hand, and it may very well use all of it.
Of course, the $1 billion mark will likely be split between two projects. Avengers: Infinity War will be the first installment of a two-part film as the yet-titled Avengers 4 will follow is a year later. However, if split evenly, the blockbuster would cost about $500 million a piece.
To date, the most costly budget for a single film goes to the fourth Pirates of the Caribbean film. The feature cost more than $378 million. For franchises, The Hobbit trilogy holds the top spot as the franchise cost about $745 million to make.
