The next time the Avengers assemble, it looks like a new face will be added to the team's line-up. Rumors began swirling that Doctor Strange would star in Avengers: Infinity War months ago, and Benedict Cumberbatch seemingly confirmed his involvement with the film in an interview. Since the revelation was made, fans have wondered how exactly the Sorcerer Supreme would fit into the blockbuster.

The answer is simple: he's going to be an Avenger.

Cumberbatch gave fans that answer at a London press junket for Doctor Strange. The British actor told attendees that Stephen Strange is going to join Earth's team of mightiest heroes and become a full-fledged Avenger.

Of course, fans of the Marvel Cinematic Universe aren't too surprised by this revelation. After all, the franchise tends to rope in its biggest silver screen heroes onto the team at some point. Even Ant-Man was brought into the fold (kind of) in Captain America: Civil War. Scott Lang happened to join up when the team wasn't doing so hot, but his inclusion solidified the notion that all superheroes - no matter how small - could team up with the Avengers.

After Cumberbatch's previous interviews, fans had alredy assumed the actor would be teaming up with the Avengers. He told Empire Magazine that the future of Doctor Strange had been cloudy for some time because of a "logistical challenge of aligning his schedule with those of Robert Downey Jr, Chris Hemsworth, Elizabeth Olsen and Paul Bettany."

Take a look at those names, and you will recognize them as actors who each play an Avenger. If Cumberbatch was working his production schedule around theirs, it means the gang will share scenes - and that only convinced fans further about Doctor Strange's cinematic future.

Cumberbatch also said, "To get us all together will be quite something. That's why this character is being introduced, to open up the next chapter. So watch this space to see how that unfolds."

Fans also learned recently that another character from Doctor Strange would be joining Infinity War. Benedict Wong told ComicBook.com that his character Wong would appear in the film. He said, "I'm thrilled I'm going to be in Infinity War. I'm looking forward to, I'll tell you that one first."

As for how the two characters will be introduced to the superhero team, fans aren't sure. Infinity War will focus on Thanos and his intergalactic quest of all the Infinity Stones, so Doctor Strange may team up with the crew to protect his own gem that resides in the Eye of Agamotto.
