There have been a lot of fun Easter eggs that can be spotted in the new trailer for Marvel’s Black Panther – but there’s one moment in the trailer that’s definitely causing a some buzz in chat threads between hardcore Marvel fans.
The moment has to do with Shuri, the tech-savvy girl who is played by Letitia Wright (Humans). Of all the impressive Vibranium tech we see Shuri using in the Black Panther footage, the scene where she presents T’Challa with his Black Panther suit may in fact come with a very important foreshadow.

Is Shuri building her own Black Panther suit? Here’s why the answer could be important to the future of the Black Panther franchise, and larger Marvel Cinematic Universe.
A Tale of Two Suits
The scene pictured above could be interpreted in one of two ways:ย
- Shuriย has two Black Panther suits, meant for two wearers.ย
- Shuriย is presenting T’Challaย with the upgraded version of his Black Panther suited (left), which is comparativelyย positioned next to the old model we saw inย Captain America: Civil War (right).
The second option is by far the most likely, as any quick comparison betweenย Civil Warย andย Black Pantherย footage confirms that the two suits in the scene above are old and new prototypes of T’Challa’sย Black Panther costume.ย
However,ย the latestย Black Pantherย trailer also confirms that the film will dive into the idea of Vibraniumย technology and the Panther suits being snatched from T’Challa’sย hands; Erik Killmongerย (Michael B. Jordan) will suit up as The Golden Jaguar to fight T’Challaย for the mantle. If Killmongerย gets his own Black Panther suit to become Golden Jaguar, then it certainly seems just as likely that the film could be sendingย Shuriย down a path that’s in keeping with her Marvel Comics origins…ย
The Female Panther
In Marvel Comics, Shuriย is the youngest child of King T’Chaka and T’Challa’sย half-sister, whose dream was to beย the first female to hold theย mantle of Black Panther. She was highly trained and skilled in combat, butย neverย put it to full use until she was forced toย wieldย the fabled Ebony Blade and kill Radioactive Man,ย duringย Klaw’sย attempted invasion ofย Wakanda.
After the trauma of her first kill, Shuriย was trained by T’Challaย in the full ways of Black Panther. Later on, when T’Challaย was left comatose, Shuriย dared to put on the Black Panther costume without the Panther God’s blessing,ย and was still able toย defended Wakandaย against threats (like Killmonger); she evenย savedย T’Challaย himself. With her worthiness being proved the hard way, the Panther God granted Shuriย the full powers of a Black Panther.ย
While theย Black Pantherย movie franchise may only be getting started, it’s never too early to start seeding future events in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. This MCUย version of Shuriย seems to be a tech-wiz, and its pretty clear from the footage that she has the know-how to actually build herself a Black Panther costume.
With T’Challaย joining the Avengers in theirย Infinity War against Thanos, and Avengers 3ย productionย teasers pointing to that war reaching the borders of Wakanda, the fabled “El Dorado” country may need a defender, when its king is away. It wouldn’t be out of the question, then, for a film likeย Avengers 4ย to introduce the female Black Panther – or for Shuriย to take up the mantle sometime in Phase 4 of the MCU.
After all, many of the original MCUย superheroes are expected to either retire, be killed, or pass on their mantles after Phase 3 is over – and with potential substitutions like Jane Foster’s female Thor, or RiRi Williams as the new Iron Man, theย Avengers’ future could definitely beย female – and that includes a slot for a female Black Panther, as well.
Black Pantherย will be in theaters on February 16th.ย Other upcomingย Marvel Cinematic Universeย movies include Thor: Ragnarokย will be in theaters on November 3rd. Avengers: Infinity Warย on May 4, 2018,ย Ant-Man and the Waspย on July 6, 2018,ย Captain Marvelon March 8, 2019, the fourthย Avengersย movie on May 3, 2019, the sequel toย Spider-Man: Homecomingย on July 5, 2019, andย Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3in 2020.
