Director Bryan Singer’s fourth film in the X-Men franchise, X-Men: Apocalypse, is finally in theatres, and one of the biggest fan moments in the film is the extended cameo by Hugh Jackman’s Wolverine.
Singer spoke to The Empire Film Podcast about the vision for Wolverine’s part in the film, and how he tried to take a different perspective on his role here as opposed to his numerous appearances in the other films.

“Well part of those characters in the X-Men universe is Wolverine, so it was a chance to introduce that idea, set up a trajectory for him, but also show him in a way the audience has never seen him. And we’ve seen him be savage and fight and things like that, but we’ve never actually seen Weapon X, and we’ve seen the origins of it, the tank, things like that, but this is what it was meant to do, or should I say he was meant to do or designed to do.”
Singer reveals that he actually has a cameo himself during that scene, and as a result can add a new honor to his resume.
“Its fun, I have a cameo in it, you can’t tell, I’m the guy firing the machine gun, screaming when the camera flys by me, but when I look at it I’m like, I couldn’t recognize myself but I was thrilled to get killed by Wolverine, and I can now say that. It’s one of my many things I can put on my resume.”
