One is a strange telekinetic wielding misfit, the other is a synthezoid with the power of the legendary Mind Stone at his disposal as he tries to better understand humanity. Together, they’re two of the most powerful members of the Avengers in Captain America: Civil War. Surprisingly enough, these two outsiders manage to find one another among the brawls and super powers and a relationship has bloomed. While the way that the movies and the comics portray this relationship is different, the core attraction between the two remains the same.

First, we’ll look into the Marvel Cinematic Universe version, as the pair’s relationship started in Avengers: Age of Ultron. During the final battle in Sokovia, the newly created Vision took some time away from the evacuation of the country’s people to save Wanda after she had ripped out Ultron’s heart for killing her brother, Quicksilver. While not having many words exchanged between them, you could feel the spark when they met and Wanda’s presence at his birth means she’s known him his entire life! Civil War plans to expand on their relationship, even though the two are star crossed lovers in the sense that Vision is on “Team Iron Man” and Scarlet Witch is firmly “Team Cap”.

In the comics, their relationship’s origin is much more complicated. When the Vision was created by Ultron in the books, the red and green android managed to take out Avenger at the time, Simon Williams (Wonder Man). As Simon was critically injured and near death, the Avengers made a last ditch attempt to save him by transplanting his brainwaves into the Vision. Since Scarlet Witch and Wonder Man had a thing going at the time, she transitioned to the Vision and started dating him!

The Vision and Scarlet Witch were a strange couple, but it actually worked for story purposes and they even had two kids…somehow. It was of course revealed that their children were in fact not real and linked to Marvel’s Mephisto, but these things happen! Since this, the Vision and Scarlet Witch have had an extremely “on again, off again” fling. At present, the Vision has created an entirely new family for himself while Wanda has struck off on her own to explore the world of magic that her powers are tied into.

Vision is far and away the strongest member of the Avengers team in Civil War, so his pairing with Scarlet Witch definitely makes for some interesting fights between the two. Their relationship is something of a trainwreck in that you can’t pull away from it considering who they are and how completely strange it is to begin with. Surely their relationship will be even further explored down the road, even if they don’t have their own individual movies scheduled, and with Thanos gunning for the Infinity Gems, expect Vision to play a key role in the Infinity War films down the road.
