When it comes to Marvel Studios, there are dozens – if not hundreds – of easter eggs hidden in its films. The company prides itself on making the Marvel Cinematic Universe as interconnected as possible, and one way directors give comic book readers some much-needed love is through these teasers. Ever since Iron Man debuted in 2008, MCU flicks have been weighed down with quirky easter eggs, and moviegoers now search for those tidbits with gusto.

That is, except for one. The director of Guardians of the Galaxy has stressed there is one big easter egg in the film which no one has caught. Now, one intrepid Reddit user thinks they might have spotted the fabled insertion – and it is a big one.

Earlier today, Reddit user @besa1000 posted a photo which may contain Gunn’s elusive easter egg. The image is sourced from the film and shows Star-Lord’s spacecraft drifting through space. In the background, fans can see breathtaking scenery of the frontier’s colors, but the netizen thinks there is something more to the image. The Reddit user says the scene depicts Groot and Rocket through the green and orange scenergy, and they even annotated the image to help others see the scene.

If Gunn was big literal when he said the easter egg was a big one, then this nod would suffice. After all, it’s scale is pretty massive even if it has little to do with the future of the MCU.

In the past month, fervor over finding the easter egg has escalated to an all-time high. The race began after Gunn told a fan on Facebook that the easter egg is real and that he would pay $100,000 if he was lying about that. Since then, fans have been eager to find the easter egg, and Gunn has been at the ready to shoot down their speculations.

Earlier this month, several fans pitched their ideas for the whole Internet to see. One Youtuber made a video that explains how the cosmic entity Eternity is the secret east egg, but Gunn has yet to respond to the appeal. The director himself shot down the idea that the easter egg had to do with The Collector after someone on Twitter asked him, and an attendee at Heroes & Villains Fan Fest even explained his easter egg theory to Michael Rooker who shot it down.

For now, fans can only keep looking over Guardians of the Galaxy in hopes of finding the fabled easter egg. Gunn has kept mum on when – or if – he will ever announce what it is, so it is up to the fans to find it for themselves.
