Guardians Of The Galaxy: Chris Pratt Had A Crazy Idea For Kurt Russell's Role
Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 is coming to theaters riding a massive amount of anticipation and [...]
Kurt Russell Almost Played... Kurt Russell
In Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2, Russell plays Ego, an ancient cosmic being who takes on the forms of entire planet, and a humanoid man (at one point taking on a famous celebrity face for a hilarious cameo moment). Because Ego chooses the forms he takes, Pratt thought that Guardians director James Gunn could have a little bit of meta-humor fun.
Talking to iO9, Chris Pratt revealed that, early on, he wanted co-star Kurt Russell to play none other than Kurt Russell!
"Peter Quill would know who Kurt Russell is," Pratt said. "...I kept pitching [director] James [Gunn] the idea, 'Should I know that that's Kurt Russell?' He's like, 'Just trust me. Don't.'"
Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 is already taking its biggest criticisms from the fact that the humor in the sequel seems to have been a bit overdone. Leaving out a whole running motif of Kurt Russell's Ego being modeled after the actual Kurt Russell was probably a good idea. As it stands, GotGV2 has more than enough fun making famous stars do strange and/or funny things.
Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 opens in the domestic market this Friday.
Set to the backdrop of 'Awesome Mixtape #2,' Marvel's Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 continues the team's adventures as they traverse the outer reaches of the cosmos. The Guardians must fight to keep their newfound family together as they unravel the mysteries of Peter Quill's true parentage. Old foes become new allies and fan-favorite characters from the classic comics will come to our heroes' aid as the Marvel cinematic universe continues to expand.
