The first Guardians of the Galaxy film hit a soft spot with many fans, in part due to its affectionate use of 80s nostalgia. Considering how heavily cassette tapes and Walkmans factored into the first film’s plot, it was a no-brainer for the physical soundtrack, “Awesome Mix Vol. 1”, to make its way to that format, courtesy of Marvel Music.

And now, according to the film’s director, James Gunn, the soundtrack for Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 will have the same fate.
For those of you asking – there WILL be both a cassette and a vinyl LP of the #GotGVol2 soundtrack, but neither will be out for a while.

If you are hoping to get a copy of the “Awesome Mix Vol. 2″ cassette before Vol. 2 premieres in just a few weeks, it sounds like the cassette and vinyl release will be quite a ways away. While there is no indication of when that release date will occur, the cassette is sure to be a hit amongst fans of the film and of the beloved retro format.
The “Awesome Mix Vol. 2” track list was unveiled just a few days ago, and includes classic songs from Electric Light Orchestra, Fleetwood Mac, Cheap Trick, and Cat Stevens. The soundtrack will end with an original track called “Guardians Inferno”, which was co-written by Gunn and performed by David Hasselhoff. You can listen to the already-released songs here, and to “Guardians Inferno” here.
