Back in 2008, the comic book world changed in a big way when Marvel Studios released Iron Man. The superhero blockbuster was the first piece of Marvel’s expansive cinematic universe, and it brought in Robert Downey Jr. to play Tony Stark. The actor was joined on-screen by Gwyneth Paltrow who played Iron Man’s love interest Pepper Potts, but the ginger-headed heroine has been notably missing lately. Now, the actress is talking about her part in the MCU and admitting she’s unsure about her contract with Marvel.

During a recent interview with Entertainment Tonight, the actress was asked about her acting career, and Paltrow admitted she was tired of the job. “I don’t think I like it anymore,” she admitted.
When she continued, Paltrow specifically nodded to her work as Pepper Potts and confessed she is not sure which Marvel flicks she is contracted to be in. “I think it’s Avengers or Captain America, one of those,” she guessed.
This is not the first time that Potts has vented her frustrations over Marvel and its secrecy. The actress has been an integral part of the MCU up until now, but she is often kept in the dark about her appearance in it. When Avengers: Age of Ultron was in development, Paltrow continually denied any involvement with the movie. “Nobody’s asked me,” she told HitFix. “My phone has not run for Avengers 2.”
Paltrow had much the same conversation when Captain America: Civil War was on the studio’s docket. The actress told Dish Nation she did not know if Pepper would appear. “I’ve heard rumors that maybe, but I don’t know.”
“My fingers are crossed. I would love to be Pepper Potts again at some point in my life,” Paltrow continued.
Of course, fans know that the feisty, capable character was left out of the star-studded film. In fact, it was hinted that Pepper had left Tony Stark, and fans were left wondering whether the two characters would ever reunite. If they do, it seems like Paltrow would be happy to sign onto the project, but the actress has even joked that Marvel might just elect to replace her with some younger talent.

“I’d like to do it,” Paltrow told Harper’s Bazaar. “But they might swap me out for an 18-year-old Pepper Potts or something.”
