Happy birthday, Hugh Jackman. The actor turns 48 today.

Born in October 1968, the actor was raised by his parents Grace and Christopher in Australia. The actor stayed in Sydney with his father following his parents divorce and eventually attended the University of Technology, Sydney. The actor earned a B.A. in Communications and even took drama classes during his final years, a decision that led him to consider pursuing acting seriously. After college, he attended a one-year acting workshop - and at 22 - the actor decided to transform his interest in theater into a career.

Jackman's early works saw him in television roles for serries like Correll and Blue Heelers. He nabbed global recognition for his leading role in Oklahoma! on London's West End circa 1998. And, a year later, the actor would go on to nab his breakout role in X-Men.

Cast as Wolverine, Jackman co-starred with major talent in X-Men. The live-action comic book adaptation was a huge hit, and Jackman was thrust into the international spotlight for his work. Considering one of Hollywood's new leading men, Jackman went on to star in other films like Kate & Leopold, Van Helsing, The Prestige, and more.

As for X-Men, Jackman reprised his role of Wolverine in multiple sequels. He starred in X2: X-Men United, X-Men: The Last Stand, X-Men Origins: Wolverine, The Wolverine, X-Men: First Class, and X-Men: Days of Future Past. He also starred in X-Men: Apocalypse and will don the hero's claws one more time in Logan, the final Wolverine flick.

The acclaimed actor has been praised for his work and have even earned an Academy Award nomination for Les Miserables. The epic musical saw Jackman co-star with actors such as Eddie Redmayne, Anne Hathaway, and more.
