Born in October 1957, Schreiber was born in San Francisco to parents Heather and Tell Carroll. His family moved to Canada when he was a child, leaving him and his half-brother to grow up in a rural area of British Colombia. It was during this time that Schreiber developed his interest in acting and would go on to attend the Royal Academy of Dramatic Art in London.
His early career saw Schreiber in supporting roles for various indie films. He is still well-known for his work on Walking and Talking, The Daytrippers, and Big Night. However, he went on to gain fame through the Scream trilogy and went on to be cast in films like The Sum of All Fears and The Omen.
In 2008, fans learned that Schreiber had joined a major franchise when he was cast as Sabretooth in X-Men Origins: Wolverine, marking the second film the actor had done with Hugh Jackman.
Since then, Schreiber has starred in Scream 4 and signed onto Goon: Last of the Enforcers. He has also taken time to revisit his prolific stage career, leading the actor to return to Broadway in 2010 in A View from the Bridge. His worked earned him a Tony nomination for Best Leading Actor in a Play.
