Each spring, TV networks engage in a slew of in house debates over which shows they will cancel, which will get renewed, and which pilots will get a chance at a season in the fall. This year, ABC is stuck in those discussions, as the network has only renewed a couple of its staple programs so far.
With no renewal announcement in place, many comic fans have been left wondering, "What about Agents of SHIELD? Will it be cancelled?"
According to the Marvel TV chief Jeff Loeb, everyone is optimistic about the show's chances.
At Freeform's Upfront event yesterday - where Marvel unveiled a trailer for Cloak & Dagger and details about New Warriors - TVLine had a chance to ask Loeb about SHIELD's place at the renewal table. Loeb responded simply with, "We're hopeful."
That's not a definitive answer by any means, but it does help to put the minds of fans at ease. Most of the time, in a situation like this, producers tend to skirt the questions a bit more. If there is a real fear of cancellation, they'll dodge the question entirely.
The people at SHIELD are hopeful, and for good reason. While the show has endured some ups and downs throughout the season, the recent Agents Of Hydra story arc has proven that the SHIELD can still engage the audience well. The story has seen a substantial uptick in viewers, and the show is continuing to hold its own against other ABC programs.
Don't you worry about Agents of SHIELD. It looks like a season five renewal is imminent.
Marvel's Agents of SHIELD airs Tuesdays at 10 p.m. ET on ABC.
