If you have been wondering whether Adam Warlock is in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, then you got an answer in Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2. The cosmic character has left fans scratching their heads for some time now, but James Gunn finally chose to put diehard fans out of their misery when a post-credits scene. At the end of the Guardians sequel, fans learn that Ayesha was busy making a synthetic being who could be her equal, and the vixen even said she’d name the creature Adam. Comic fans were left shaken at the admission, but now many are why the nod was given.

According to Kevin Feige, the reveal was cooked up by Gunn to give fans a clue about Ayesha’s growing importance in the MCU.

In an interview with SlashFilm, the president of Marvel Studios talked about what it takes to make a memorable post-credits scene. Since Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 has so many, Feige took time to talk about one of the film’s more shocking clips. The producer said the nod to Adam Warlock is one which casual fans will be left to wonder about while diehard readers can celebrate it.

“The Ayesha tag with Adam Warlock came up also towards the end of production, the beginning of post-production. To give her a little bit of an exit into the movie and more of a sort of solidifying her whole purpose in the movie. And like at the premiere they go “we’ll call him Adam.” People go “Oh, I wonder who Adam is?” When there are fans seeing the movie, they’ll know who Adam is,” Feige told the site.

When asked whether the tag was directly meant to refer to Avengers: Infinity War, Feige was quick to shoot the idea down. “Adam is not in Infinity War. That is not a tag for Infinity War,” he said.

The producer is not the only one who has said Adam Warlock would not appear in the next Avengers film. James Gunn told the site a very similar thing last month about the fan-favorite character.

“He’s not. He’s not in Infinity War. But he will be a part of the future Marvel cosmic universe and a pretty important part of that,” Gunn said.
