The 94th Academy Awards serve as the endcap to another awards season, paying tribute to the best filmmakers of the past year. With blockbusters a mainstay in Hollywood, the Best Visual Effects Oscar is typically reserved for one of the massive studio features. This year included two Marvel movies as nominees in the category, including Jon Watts’ Spider-Man: No Way Home and Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings from Destin Daniel Cretton.
Neither Marvel flick won and instead, the Best Visual Effects award went to Denis Villeneuve’s Dune. Quickly after the award was handed out, No Way Home began to trend as fans became upset with the “snub.”
