7 Highlights From Marvel In January

Marvel Comics today released its full solicitations for January 2018, and we’re looking through the list to find the most exciting Marvel Comics ringing in the new year.

Perhaps the most epic shift comes from the Avengers line, where Avengers, USAvengers, Uncanny Avengers, and Occupy Avengers will all merge into a single, weekly Avengers series for the 16-part “No Surrender” saga.

Marvel is teasing that “No Surrender” will be both the end of this Avengers era, and a lead into the next era. With “No Surrender” set to wrap up right around when Avengers: Infinity War hits theaters, could Marvel be preparing a relaunch of the Avengers comic with its classic heroes – Iron Man, Captain America, Thor – returning to the roster? Plus, the Black Order is back!

That’s not the only cosmic return as Adam Warlock reemerges in the Marvel Universe. Adam will return in Guardians of the Galaxy #150, as the Guardians continue their search for the Infinity Stones. When Warlock gets involved, fans know things are about to reach an entirely new level.

And speaking of the Infinity Stones, Captain Marvel will battle Star-Lord for the Reality Stone in Captain Marvel #128. Since this story, “Dark Origin,” hasn’t begun yet, it’s a little unclear how Carol and Quill end up at odds, but there’s certainly an important prize for the victor.

Going from cosmic to street level, the “Kingpins of New York” storyline continues in Defenders and teases “new Defenders” joining the mix. The cover shows Jessica Jones leading a group of street-level heroines, including White Tiger, Spider-Woman, Elektra, Echo, Colleen Wing, Misty Knight, and Black Cat.

Over in the X-Men corner of Marvel’s publishing line, readers will return to the world of “Old Man Logan” with the prequel series Old Man Hawkeye, revealing what Hawkeye was up to before he lost his vision and led Logan on a cross-country road trip through the Wastelands.

The X-Men Gold Annual sees a reunion of fan-favorite X-Men spinoff team Excalibur. Nightcrawler, Kitty Pryde, Nightcrawler, Meggan, and Captain Britain come together for the first time in years to say hello to Brian and Meggan’s new baby.

Finally, the X-Men Blue Annual sees Venom teaming up with the original five X-Men to stop an invasion by the multidimensional predators called Poisons.
