Marvel Studios Will Not Unveil Phase 4 Slate Or Infinity War 2 Title Any Time Soon

The days of guessing which movie is coming next in the Marvel Cinematic Universe by waiting through each film’s credits for a tease of new characters might be creeping back to us.

Following Phase 3 of the Marvel Studios films, the studio will keep titles of upcoming films a little closer to the vest. The studio’s President Kevin Feige spoke with members of the press during a rare Open House event at Marvel Studios HQ earlier this week, teasing the new plan.

The studio held an unexpected event in 2014 which revealed plans for a two-part Avengers: Infinity War culmination which would follow Captain America: Civil War, Black Panther, and Inhumans. This won’t be the case going forward.

Phase 4

When asked if the studio would have another big announcement or reveal for the release dates and titles of Phase 4 movies (which begins in 2019) and beyond, Feige says they will not.

The studio President did not give an exact reason but one of the likely roots is the shake-up of titles which followed in the years after the announcements.

The Inhumans movie, originally planned for 2019, was scrapped altogether in favor of a TV series which will see a couple of episodes head to IMAX for a week. Captain Marvel, Thor: Ragnarok, and Black Panther both moved their dates around following Spider-Man’s joining of the Marvel Cinematic Universe and earning a standalone effort in this summer’s Homecoming. 

Late to the party was Ant-Man and the Wasp, the sequel to Ant-Man, which wasn’t announced until a couple of weeks after the film was determined to be a success at the box office.

Infinity War – Part II

Topping it all off, the second Avengers: Infinity War movie will receive a facelift in the form of a new title. However, Feige says he wants to hold on to that title for “as long as possible.” If the studio can get away with it, they won’t release the title of the sequel until after the first ensemble film’s release in May of 2018. 

Previously, it has been said that the title of Avengers: Infinity War Part II would be a spoiler for the first film. Closing in a year from the movie’s release, Feige might just get his wish of keeping that title away from the public until they’ve fully endured the Avengers and Guardians true run in with the Mad Titan, Thanos.
