SYNOPSIS: “Marvel’s The Defenders” follows Daredevil, Jessica Jones, Luke Cage and Iron Fist. A quartet of singular heroes with one common goal – to save New York City. This is the story of four solitary figures, burdened with their own personal challenges, who realize they just might be stronger when teamed together.

Crossover Payoff
Simply put: The Defendersย capitalizesย on the “worldsย collide” appeal of its premise, in the best ways. ย Watching Charlie Cox’s Daredevil,ย Krystenย Ritter’sย Jessica Jones, Mikeย Colter’sย Luke Cage, Finn Jones’ Iron Fist (and all their supporting characters) dispensingย trash-talk, punches, and/or soul-searching advice in shifting arrangements is just as (if not more) fun than seeing them actually battleย the evil threat looming over them.
Because fans are so deeply intimate and familiar with the characters and worlds of each hero, it makes the experience of seeing all those worlds come together that much richer. Defendersย does a great job pulling together story threads that were dangled in each individual series, demonstrating some of the best cohesion we’ve seen from theย MCU.ย
Great Action
The Defendersย does deliver great superheroย action – and then some. We get to see each individual heroย throw down, see them fight in various smaller (but still awesome) combinations, and, of course, fighting as a complete unit.
If you were worried that the show would suffer from someย of the weak fight choreography we saw inย Iron Fist, then don’t.ย The Defendersย has exciting action in just its first four episodes with even bigger fight sequences sure to come.
At four episodes in, the show has only just scratched the surface of The Hand’s plans for New York City. The series makes use of Elektra (Elodie Yung) as The Black Sky, as a physical enforcer and action highlight, but has so far only hinted at origins and capabilities of the mysterious antagonist Alexandra (Sigourney Weaver), and her cohorts in the The Hand leadership.ย
Expect The Defenders to endure some epic battles in order to save New York.ย
The Defendersย premieres on August 18th, on Netflix.ย
