The land of cinema has another talented spirit in actor Bill Nunn, who died today in Pittsburgh at the age of 62.

The announcement was made by Nunn’s friend and collaborator Spike Lee via his Instagram account. The two worked together on Lee’s classic Do The Right Thing and later reunited in Lee’s film School Daze (via The Wrap).

In addition to working with Lee on some of his classic films, Nunn later became synonymous with the Marvel Comics character Joseph “Robbie” Robertson, who constantly clashes with the comical tyrant that is J. Jonah Jameson at the Daily Bugle. He apperared as Robertson in all three of Sam Raimi’s Spider-Man films.

Nunn had a varied and fulfilling career, appearing in films like New Jack City, Regarding Henry, Sister Act, Candy Man, Bulletproof, He Got Game, Extreme Measures, Runaway Jury, and Idlewild.

The cause of death is unknown at this time.
