There’s been a lot of confusion and vagueness when it comes to the question of how Sony’s rebooted Spider-Man franchise synch up with the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Spider-Man: Homecoming is a pretty clear extension of what happens in the Avengers movies, but things like the upcoming Spider-Man spinoff Venom aren’t necessarily in the sandbox as the Avengers films.
The two planned Spider-Man: Homecoming sequels will be fit into the main MCU continuity – and we already know when and where Spider-Man: Homecoming 2 will fit into the timeline, thanks to a new interview with Marvel Studios head, Kevin Feige, and Sony Pictures head, Amy Pascal.

Speaking with Fandom, Pascal explained that in terms of the Homecoming sequel film, “we are starting now the next one which will start a few minutes after Avengers 4 wraps as a story.”
That means Spider-Man: Homecoming 2 (not the official title) will be the kick-off to Phase 4 of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, which will see a major shift in characters and storyline. Could Spider-Man find himself in the position of becoming one of Earth’s primary protectors, if the classic Avengers team is no more? It would definitely be an interesting escalation for Tom Holland’s Spider-Man, who will reportedly make more than a few new enemies by the time Spider-Man: Homecoming is done.
