FX has the movies, and the cable channel has picked up yet another: Spider-Man: Homecoming.

The move comes as theatrical films continue to prove themselves good investments for TV airings, delivering stronger ratings for basic cable networks than off-network series, Deadline reports.
Spider-Man: Homecoming — which is produced by Marvel Studios but owned and distributed by Sony — is the latest Marvel Studios production to be picked up by FX. Marvel Studios pre-sold the cable rights to five of its movies in 2008 for a four-year license term, with FX purchasing Iron Man and The Incredible Hulk before either production hit theaters. The TV success of Iron Man 2 lead FX to purchase the TV rights to Iron Man 3 in 2013.
2011’s Captain America: The First Avenger and 2012’s The Avengers are currently available through FX’s on-demand streaming service, FXNOW.
In 2014, Disney-owned Marvel Studios struck a new TV deal with TNT, who locked up the rights to the studios’ next five movies, starting with Avengers: Age of Ultron. That deal brings the Marvel movies to TNT two years after their theatrical release and includes Ant-Man, Captain America: Civil War, Doctor Strange, and Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2, all major box office successes for Disney.
FX has long been cable’s go-to home for superhero hits on the small screen, running everything from Spider-Man 2 and Spider-Man 3 to Ghost Rider, the first three X-Men movies, The Wolverine, Superman Returns, Batman Begins, and Fantastic Four and Fantastic Four: Rise of the Silver Surfer.
FX’s most recent pickups include 16 other 2017 releases. In addition to Spider-Man: Homecoming, FX acquired Sony’s Baby Driver, The Dark Tower, and The Emoji Movie. From Universal, FX grabbed Despicable Me 3, The Fate of the Furious, Get Out, Split, The Mummy, and Girls Trip. From Fox, FX bought Logan, War for the Planet of the Apes, Alien: Covenant, Captain Underpants: The First Epic Movie, The Boss Baby, and Snatched. FX also bought Focus Features’ Atomic Blonde.
Spider-Man: Homecoming is swinging towards $780+ million at the worldwide box office and is expected to hit 4K UHD and Blu-ray in October.
