The stakes are quite high for the X-Men in Marvel’s Inhumans vs X-Men event, and in keeping with an event of this magnitude, there have been several memorable moments in the five issues thus far.

The series has shown just how deadly the X-Men can be when they work as a unit (well, mostly as a unit), and it stars them at their best, which happens to be on the verge of extinction. For the Inhumans, it’s a conflict about their future, but then again, when one side’s future prospects erase the other side’s chance at any future at all, well, you can see how that would become a raging fire pretty quickly.

With the event about to reach its conclusion, it seemed like a good idea to go through what’s happened so far and spotlight ComicBook.com’s favorite highlights. The series has been enjoyable up to this point, and hopefully, issue #6 will deliver a satisfactory ending.

You can read the official description for Inhumans vs X-Men #5 below.

It’s Karnak vs. Fantomex in The World, as Medusa and her team attempt to liberate their secret weapon โ€” Black Bolt. Storms are brewing as the X-Men make their move on the remaining

5. The Onslaught Of Colossus

In Inhumansย vs X-Men #4, the two armies are still hitting each other hard, with an ongoing fight taking place at X-Haven in Limbo.

With the other X-Men occupied elsewhere, the Inhumansย attempt to exit Limbo with their incapacitated king Black Bolt. Only one thing stands in their way, and he isn’t planning on letting them leave. That would be the beloved Russianย mutant Colossus, who is seen emerging through fire to take on the royal family.

Gorgon speaks of Colossusย as the highly imposing force he should always be, and at times he definitely hasn’t been depicted as such. This was a nice return to form, and the fight was pretty fantastic as well.

4. The Whole Story Revealed

While Medusa and the royal family are well aware of the stakes for mutant kind, their newer charges are definitely not. Fortunately, by issue four’s end, the deeper reason behind the X-Men’s actions are revealed.

Thanks to Mosaic’s meddling inside Magneto’s head, he learns the real reason the X-Men are attacking now. The royal family never filled them in that no cure for the terrigen’sย effects on mutants had been found, and the Mutants are fighting for their very survival. New Inhumans like Ms. Marvel and Moon Girl are confronted with the realization that they aren’t on the right side, and there might not be a right side in this conflict.

This spurs them to work together and just might save mutant kind as a result.

3. Beast Gets Suckerpunched

Finally, FINALLY! Seriously, this has been a long time coming, especially for someone who so often criticizedย Scott Summers for not having mutants best interest in mind.

In the closing pages of Inhumansย Vs X-Men #1, Beast breaks the news to the other X-Men leaders that he hasn’t been able to cure the M-Pox plague, and nowhere during his soliloquyย about how he failed does he actually offer up any other solutions other than “move from the earth”. This understandably doesn’t go over very well with the other members of the team, who have already started making their own plans in case this happened.

That involves taking down the Inhumansย and destroying the terrigenย cloud. When Beast storms off saying he will have no part in it, Storm hits him with a bolt of lightning and tells him the plan was hers as well.

It’s about time someone knocked him off his high horse.

2. Mosaic Possessing Magneto

The Inhuman Mosaic has the ability to possess someone’s body but has to have access to their mind first. This ability leads to an insightful and hilarious sequenceย with Magneto.

Magneto keeps his mind free of telepathic meddling thanks to his specially designed helmet, but in a meeting in the X-Men’s home base, he decides to take it off. During this time Mosaic makes his move, attempting to figure out where the other Inhumans are located.

He discovers far more than he bargained for, including the real reason why the X-Men are attacking the Inhumansย now. While he doesn’tย maintain control for long, he does take control of Magneto’s body long enough to make the imposing mutant seem, well, a bit awkward, and the sequence isย definitely worth a second look.

1. Blackbolt Getting Dazzled

The best moment of the series thus far actually happens in the first issue, and it includes a fan favorite showing how truly powerful she can be.

The first Inhuman the X-Men take out is the royal family’s king, Black Bolt. Emma Frost gets Black Bolt alone in his suite and invites another X-Man in disguise along for the ride, that being the mutant Dazzler.

When Dazzler lifts a gun, Black Boltย opens up and retaliates with a powerful blast, but the X-Men planned for this. The blast charges up Dazzler, who absorbs that type of energy. Emma Frost turns to diamond, hits Black Bolt’s throat, and Dazzler returns all the power she stored up and knocks Black Bolt flat on his back.

No one puts Dazzler in a corner.
