Comic book movie fans have been pleasantly surprised by the bold advances that Fox has made in recent years with its X-Men movie properties (the Fantastic Four franchise, not so much…).

Fox hasn’t just upped the quality of its X-Men films; the studio has taken bold risks, releasing superhero movies like Deadpool and Logan with hard-R ratings, while introducing more and more fantastical elements to its X-Men films, in effort to expand the X-Men movie franchise into a full-on cinematic universe.

At the time of writing this, Fox has reportedly reserved release dates for six new Marvel movies the studio plans to release between 2017 and 2021 – but the specific films being released are still a mystery. We’ve taken a look at past rumors and speculation, to help answer the question: Which New Marvel Movies is Fox Releasing Between 2018 and 2021?

2018

We already know which X-Men Movies we’ll get in 2018 – so this one isn’t really that much of a “mystery.”ย

X-Men: The New Mutantsย (April 13th) – This X-Men spinoffย will follow the first graduating class of Charles Xavier’s school, who become their own junior X-Men squad. It’s being directed byย The Fault In Our Stars‘ Josh Boone, and will starย Game of Thrones’ย Maisieย Williams, The Witch‘sย Anyaย Taylor-Joy, among others. CLICK BELOWย for More Info on the Film.ย

Deadpoolย 2ย (June 1st) – The film that changed the game for Fox is coming back for it’s much-anticipated sequel. A director change-up hasย John Wickย co-director David Leitchย taking over the helm form Tim Miller, while iconic X-Men characters like Cable (Josh Brolin) and Domino (Atlanta‘s Zazieย Beetz) will be introduced.CLICK BELOWย for More Info on the Film

X-Men: Dark Phoenixย (November 2nd) – The next X-Men movie will try to take a page from X-Men:ย Days of Future Pastย (literally), by trying to take one of the most famous X-Men comic book stories there is, and adapting it into a blockbuster movie hit. The cast ofย X-Men: Apocalypseย (Jennifer Lawrence, Michael Fassbender, James McAvoy,ย Game of Thronesย star Sophie Turner) will all be returning, while Jessica Chastainย may be joining the cast as alien queen, Lilandra. Longtimeย franchise producer Simon Kinbergย is stepping up to direct.ย

Each of these 2018 X-Men movies will add another fantastical piece to the larger X-Universe, opening the door even wider for bigger films to follow in the subsequent years….

What could Marvel movies could Fox be releasing in 2019? There’s two likely candidates:ย

X-Forceย With Cable and Domino beingย introduced inย Deadpoolย 2, the natural progression would be to have them (and other new characters) shift into the fullย X-Forceย team movie, like their comic book counterparts.ย X-Forceย has been in development at Fox for years, and has getting closer and closer to production. It’s previously been revealed thatย Deadpoolย 2ย is, in part, anย X-Forceย setup story, so it’s a pretty safe guess that the team film will be Fox’s 2019 tentpole, with Joshย Brolinย leading the way.ย

GambitThe Gambit movie has been in development for years now, with Channingย Tatum already cast in the titular lead role of Gambit. The project recently suffered a setback whenย Edge of Tomorrowย director Dougย Limanย dropped out of directing, but with Simon Kinbergย staring early this yearย that the film is “in active development,” getting another director, and cameras rolling, shouldn’t be an impossible goal for 2018. Channingย Tatum’s slate is currently pretty much clear for 2018 – meaning that aย Gambitย announcement could be coming soon… perhaps at Comic-Con 2016?ย

2020

Deadpoolย 3 –ย It’s easy to assume that Fox won’t let the iron cool on theย Deadpoolย franchise, and will get the third Deadpoolย movie into production in 2019 (a year of theย Deadpoolย 2‘s release) and into theaters for 2020.ย

Fantastic Four Re-Reboot –ย It was recently rumored that Fox is working on a way to once again reboot theย Fantastic Fourย franchise, after Josh Trank’sย 2015 film put a serious dent in the franchise. 2020 will be half a decade since the release of Trank’sย film – just enough time to relaunchย the property under a new creative vision. With only two Marvel properties in the studio’s possession, it’s doubtful they will let it slide into total irrelevanceย (or hand it back to Marvel).ย

*New Solo Character Film –ย Sinceย Hugh Jackmanย walked away from Wolverine, Fox needs a new solo character franchise to bank on. Possibilities are wide-ranging: Josh Brolin’sย Cable souldย definitely support his own solo film; there’s been longstanding talk of Jennifer Lawrence’s Mystique getting her own solo film spinoff; and if Fox is hoping to go back to similar well of profits there’s Laura/X-23, the breakout character of this year’sย Loganย who could inherit the Wolverine movie mantle, just like her comic book counterpart has.ย

Untitled X-Men Sequel –ย This date would be when we expect to see the next big installment of the mainย X-Men movie line. While it could definitely arrive in 2020,ย getting the massive ensemble cast together for another event film in the much-more expanded X-Men movie universe is a challenge that will take a few years of breathing room to accomplish.ย

New Mutants is gearing up for production this year, and is set to bow in theaters on April 13, 2018. Deadpool 2 will follow that up on June 1, andย X-Men: Dark Phoenixย on November 2nd.ย
