Anna Paquin Says She Would Return As Rogue For More X-Men Movies

Anna Paquin has been playing the X-Men’s Rogue through four films over the course of more than 15 years, but she’s still got some more Rogue left in her.

“I have had a great time on all of those films that I’ve been part of. Those are people that are very dear to me,” she told IGN while on the press tour for The Good Dinosaur. “If it happens that that’s something that makes sense for whichever of the 700 different X-Men projects that are happening which I personally can’t keep track of then that’s great. If not, they’re still fun to watch.”

Fans have been eager to see a fully-powered Rogue – the flying powerhouse in a bomber jacket from the 1990s era that was made popular by X-Men: The Animated Series – and were left disappointed when the perhaps misleadingly named Rogue Cut of X-Men: Days of Future Past didn’t deliver. This desire among fans caused a stir when Paquin responded to a question about her possible return on Twitter with a comment about the character flying, but Paquin was quick to clarify what was meant as a joke.

“Look, I’ve always said that. I’ve been saying that since they cast me when I was 16 — like, ‘Do I get to fly?’” Paquin said. “I made some flippant remark on Twitter about if I get to fly that was like breaking news. I’m like, OK, oh for god’s sake. Humor doesn’t translate that well in written word.”

But while she isn’t presently involved with any in-development X-Men movie projects – and has specifically stated that she won’t be appearing in the first cinematic solo outing of Rogue’s longtime beau, Gambit – she would still be happy to return the franchise, flight or no flight.

“I would come back and do whatever,” she said. “These are people I’ve known for half my life. I have a lot of love for my X-Men family. I realistically wouldn’t really care what it was if they were getting the whole gang back together kind of thing. On a side note personally, I would really like to fly because flying’s cool.”
