The Bill Nye Film has already raised more than $800,000 as of Aug. 13, significantly more than its $650,000 goal. The previous record-holder also centered on a celebrity; For The Love of Spock, a documentary about Leonard Nimoy from his son Adam, raised about $660,000.
Filmmakers David Alvarado and Jason Sussberg plan to follow Nye to his lectures and other events over the course of a year and create an exhaustive record of what he does for the documentary. Check out the Kickstarter video below:
The film is already fully funded, so you can contribute now to reserve your rewards — but obviously if they’re following him around for a year before they start editing, it will be a while before DVDs are sent out.
