Not much is known about how that will work or if the two will be on-screen at the exact same time, but actor Chris Hemsworth has heard the pitch for the project from J.J. Abrams and has nothing but great things to say (via SlashFIlm). “I’ve spoken to J.J. Abrams, and he has an amazing pitch on the whole thing, ” said Hemsworth, who was also asked how it comes to be. To that, he said, “I honestly don’t know.”

Hemsworth played James Tiberius Kirk’s father George Kirk in the original Star Trek reboot, where he went down with the ship before he could meet his son. As to how the two will cross paths, time travel and alternate universes is something the series has already utilized, so it shouldn’t be too difficult to make it happen.

You can view the official synopsis for Star Trek Beyond below.

After stopping off at Starbase Yorktown, a remote outpost on the fringes of Federation space, the USS Enterprise, halfway into their five-year mission, is destroyed by a powerful, unstoppable wave of unknown aliens. With the crew stranded on an unknown planet and with no apparent means of rescue, they find themselves fighting against a ruthless enemy with a well-earned hatred of the Federation and everything it stands for. Only a rebellious alien warrior can help them reunite and leave the planet to stop this deadly menace from a possible galactic war.

Star Trek Beyond is on Blu-ray, DVD, and Digital services now.
