The third episode of Peacemaker Season 2 just answered a major mystery from the DC Extended Universe that James Gunn’s new DC Universe could have easily forgotten. The question of what from the DCEU is canon in James Gunn and Peter Safran’s new franchise has been a hot topic of discussion since the reboot was confirmed. Gunn has routinely stated that anything seen or mentioned in the DCU’s new projects is officially canon, so Peacemaker Season 2 has already canonized many events from 2021’s The Suicide Squad and 2022’s Peacemaker Season 1.

While the Justice League’s appearance in Peacemaker Season 1 was retconned to instead include the Justice Gang from 2025’s Superman, several DCEU events have been confirmed to have also taken place in the DCU’s history. This includes the Suicide Squad’s mission in Corto Maltese, Peacemaker killing Rick Flag Jr., and most of the events of Peacemaker Season 1. Peacemaker Season 2’s third episode mentioned something nobody expected would be made canon, however, which came as a huge surprise.
Peacemaker Rewrites Suicide Squad’s Ending

Peacemaker Season 2, Episode 3, “Another Rick Up My Sleeve,” marked Joel Kinnaman’s return to the role of Rick Flag Jr., who he previously played in 2016’s Suicide Squad and 2021’s The Suicide Squad. Flag was revealed to have been in a sexual relationship with Emilia Harcourt (Jennifer Holland), which explains her animosity towards Peacemaker in Season 1, as John Cena’s antihero killed her lover in Corto Maltese. However, Peacemaker also suggested that, prior to the Suicide Squad’s mission in 2021, Flag had still been in a relationship with June Moone (Cara Delevingne), and she was apparently still a sorceress.
This reveal rewrites the ending of 2016’s Suicide Squad, as, while Flag and Moone were still seemingly in a relationship at the end of David Ayer’s DCEU movie, the Enchantress was no more. The Suicide Squad save Midway City and all of humanity from the Enchantress by destroying her heart, seemingly releasing Moone. Peacemaker Season 2 has instead suggested that Moone still has the Enchantress inside her as of the mission in Corto Maltese, which presents an even darker possibility for the DCU going forward.
The DCU Just Added A New God-Tier Character

The idea that Enchantress wasn’t killed at the end of Suicide Squad and was still a presence in the DCU as of the time of The Suicide Squad means one of DC’s most powerful characters was just confirmed in the new franchise. Following her DC Comics debut in 1966’s Strange Adventures #187, Enchantress has become one of the most formidable characters on the page, often depicted as both a villain and an antihero. It would be fantastic to see her reimagined for the new DCU, especially after Suicide Squad’s missteps with the character.
It’s possible that destroying Enchantress’ heart in Suicide Squad killed the dark side of the character, but left June Moone with magical abilities and an advanced knowledge of the arcane arts. This could lead to the introduction of a more heroic version of Enchantress after Peacemaker Season 2, though it’s unclear whether Delevingne would reprise the role almost a decade after her last DC appearance. Peacemaker Season 2 may have confirmed Moone and Enchantress’ existence, but that doesn’t mean she’ll be appearing anytime soon.
