Ever since the release of the fan-favorite monster film Pacific Rim, viewers have been eagerly anticipating a sequel. And if a tweet from one of the film’s stars is any indication, Pacific Rim: Uprising has gotten one step closer to being onscreen.
John Boyega, who will star in the film as the descendant of Idris Elba’s Stacker Pentecost, recently shared that he has officially wrapped on the film.

Of course, the budding star will most likely be further involved as the film enters post-production, but Boyega’s tweet is a good sign that Uprising is on track to meet its February 2018 release date.
In the meantime, Boyega will certainly be keeping busy. Aside from other projects, the 25-year-old actor will reprise his role as Finn in the highly-anticipated Star Wars: The Last Jedi and Star Wars: Episode IX – the later of which could be filming as early as this summer.
An official synopsis hasn’t been release for Uprising yet, but monster-fighting fans across the globe can rest assured Boyega and company will kick some kaiju butt come 2018.
Boyega stars and will be joined by Scott Eastwood, Cailee Spaeny, and Jing Tian in Pacific Rim: Uprising. The cast also includes Levi Meaden, Adria Arjona, Rahart Adams. Karan Brar, Nick E. Tarabay, Ivanna Sakhno, Zhang Jin, Mackenyu, Shyrley Rodriguez, Wesley Wong, Lily Ji, Chen Zitong, Lan Yingying, and Qian Yongchen.
Pacific Rim: Uprising is currently being filmed, and is expected to hit theaters February 23, 2018. The original Pacific Rim earned $411 million worldwide, with $101 million of that coming domestically.
