Academy Award winner Robert Redford is in talks with Marvel Studios to star in Captain America: The Winter Soldier, Deadline reports. The report indicates that Redford will be brought in to play a “senior leadership role in S.H.I.E.L.D.,” which leads us to wonder whether the aging actor may be a tie to the Cold War, given the nature of the plot, which sees Captain America’s sidekick Bucky resurrected from the apparently-dead to work as a Soviet sleeper agent.Redford, the founder of the Sundance Film Festival and a champion of independent film, could find himself in line to star in some of Disney’s biggest blockbusters if he lands a Marvel role, in addition to the possibility of a guest appearance on Marvel’s S.H.I.E.L.D. being built into the deal, given the nature of the purported role.Marvel had no comment. More on this as it develops.
