Game of Thrones actress Sophie Turner is getting ready to step into a role that is new to her but familiar to fans. In X-Men: Apocalypse, she’ll play the young Jean Grey after actress Famke Janssen played the adult version of the character in the original X-Men movie trilogy.

Turner explains that the insecurities of youth, and immense telepathic power, are what set her Jean apart from Janssen’s.

“The difference between this and Famke’s Jean Grey is she’s young and isolated and so insecure and very alienated โ€“ even from the other mutants โ€“ because she’s so powerful,” Turners tells EW. “So there’s a real vulnerability to her and it’s great to see how her and Scott [Tye Sheridan] find each other through that alienation. She’s a great role to play, she’s so much fun, and her arc in the movie is amazing.”

Jean is one of several original trilogy X-Men characters that have been recast as their younger selves for X-Men: Apocalypse. In addition to Turner as Jean Grey and Sheridan as Cyclops, Alexandra Shipp will play a wayward Ororo Munroe (a.k.a. Storm), Kodi-Smit McPhee will play young Nightcrawler, and Ben Hardy will play Angel.
