The Goriest Horror Movie Reboot Returns to Tubi Just Before Halloween

Gore and horror go hand in hand, but one horror movie reboot just may be the most brutal of them all. As Tubi stocked its streaming library with fresh titles in September, it brought a brutally good horror movie to the platform just in time for Halloween. But Tubi viewers be warned โ€“ not everyone will be able to stomach this reboot of a hit horror franchise.

As of September 1st, Evil Dead (2013) is available to stream on Tubi. The movie serves as the fourth installment in the Evil Dead film series, which got its start with Sam Raimiโ€™s 1981 movie of the same name, and a non-Ash-centric continuation of the films. The movie centers around a new character, Mia, and her friends as they travel to a remote cabin in the woods. Things take a terrifying turn when Mia becomes possessed by a malevolent entity after a mysterious Book of the Dead awakens an ancient demon. Jane Levy, Shiloh Fernandez, Lou Taylor Pucci, Jessica Lucas, and Elizabeth Blackmore star.

Why You Should Watch Evil Dead

With a 64% critics and audience score on Rotten Tomatoes, Evil Dead is the lowest-rated installment in the beloved horror franchise in both metrics, but itโ€™s still a wickedly good time for any fan of the horror genre. Directed by Fede รlvarez, who co-wrote the screenplay with Rodo Sayagues, the movie takes Evil Dead in a new direction, stripping back the campy horror-comedy aspects of the original movie and many of its sequels to present itself as straight horror. What results is an absolutely brutal, terrifying, and dark film that succeeds at creating a visceral, relentless sense of discomfort that will keep even the bravest of viewers on the edge of their seat.

The movie is an absolute gorefest โ€“ more than 70,000 gallons of fake blood were used on the movie โ€“ and while the lack of absurdist humor causes the movie to lose some of the charm of the original, meaning it wonโ€™t be for everyone, Evil Dead succeeds as a horror movie. The movie, a standalone film that can be enjoyed without seeing any previous films in the franchise, delivers terrifying, bloody, and unrelenting horror through great practical effects and creates a palpable atmosphere all while expanding the lore of the franchise.
