Brett Dalton, who plays Agent Grant Ward on Marvel's Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D., told Comic Book Resources in a new interview that he's entertained by fan theories revolving around his character -- but implied that they're wrong. Since last week's episode revealed Ward as a traitor working with Agent John Garrett for HYDRA, fans have speculated that Ward might turn out to be a triple agent -- not actually working for HYDRA, but infiltrating them from within on behalf of S.H.I.E.L.D. Others have noted that such a project would be difficult to sell, since in Captain America: The Winter Soldier, HYDRA's existence within S.H.I.E.L.D. was not even known to Nick Fury until he stumbled across some irregularities. For Dalton's part? He seems to imply that the triple-agent thing is all just fan wishful thinking -- but other remarks he made suggest that there's more to it than that. "I think the triple agent thing is the one that I heard that I thought was quite funny," Dalton said. "Of course, the quadruple agent -- I literally can't wrap my head around that. I don't know what that means. I guess, I was actually working for HYDRA while actually working for S.H.I.E.L.D. while actually working for HYDRA or something, some crazy -- it becomes so meta at some point that the whole idea of a quadruple agent just seems like a brain teaser, but I do think it's quite funny." He added, "It's like Inception, or it's like one of those magazine covers where you have two people and they're holding that magazine, and on that magazine cover is the same cover of the magazine. It's a whole bunch of images reflected." But is he really a bad guy for good -- and thus, by logical extension, out of the principal cast? Sounds like the answer is no -- or that if it's yes, he might take somebody with him. "SkyeWard is not dead, for all the shippers," he teased. "Also, I'm really proud of the last couple episodes we've got -- and I don't think fans will be disappointed."
