American Sniper Hits $200 Million Box Office, Winning Second Weekend

In its second weekend of wide release in theaters, American Sniper has grabbed the top spot at the box office this weekend with $64 million. The total gross for the Clint Eastwood film is now at $200 million domestic according to Box Office Mojo.

Based on a true story, U.S. Navy SEAL Chris Kyle (Bradley Cooper) takes his sole mission -- protect his comrades -- to heart and becomes one of the most lethal snipers in American history. His pinpoint accuracy not only saves countless lives but also makes him a prime target of insurgents.

Despite grave danger and his struggle to be a good husband and father to his family back in the States, Kyle serves four tours of duty in Iraq. However, when he finally returns home, he finds that he cannot leave the war behind.

The Boy Next Door came in second with $15 million. Paddington nabbed the third spot with $12.3 million. The Imitation Game ($7.1 million) and Mortdecai ($4.1 million) round out the top five at the box office.
