With Justice League: Throne of Atlantis on the way, rumors that he'll appear in Batman V Superman: Dawn of Justice and not one but two acclaimed comics series currently on the stands, it appears Aquaman will get his own solo feature film sooner than later.

Will Beall, who wrote Gangster Squad, and Kurt Johnstad, who wrote 300: Rise of an Empire, are tackling two separate scripts for Warner Bros., according to The Hollywood Reporter.

Beall was previously connected to a script for Justice League that did not go forward at the studio. The idea of developing the movie on two tracks is reportedly so that the studio can find at least one usable script out of the two and move forward quickly, allowing them to set a release date early in the development process and be fairly confident they can hit it.

It's also possible that they could have directors in mind to work on each of the versions ahead of time, although obviously there would be no deals in place until they decided which script would move forward.

Since THR had previously reported that they were certain Jason Momoa was Aquaman in Batman V Superman: Dawn of Justice, it's probably safe to assume that this rumor has the film being written with him as mind.

DC Entertainment Chief Creative Officer Geoff Johns had previously said that an Aquaman movie was a priority for DC, while Warners still has not confirmed that the character will appear in Batman V Superman. Momoa squirmed during an interview when the question was brought up, touching off a new round of "confirmations" earlier today.

Last week, Batman V Superman director Zack Snyder, who also worked with Johnstad on 300, called into a Detroit radio show to defend Aquaman's honor.

The studio announced nine new, as-yet-undisclosed DC Entertainment films will be released between when Batman V Superman: Dawn of Justice comes out in early 2016 and the end of 2020. It's not yet clear which date they could be eyeing for Aquaman. Tthe first untitled DC movie is due for release on Aug. 5, 2016, with two more due in 2017, on June 23 and November 17.
