Here’s everything we now about Batman: Arkham Knight.
One Year Later
Arkham Knight will be set one year after the events of Batman: Arkham City, which ended with the death of the Joker.
No Paul Dini
Celebrated Batman: The Animated Series and Detective Comics writer Paul Dini wrote the stories for both Batman: Arkham Asylum and Arkham City. Rocksteady Studios decided to use their own in-house team of writers for Arkham Knight.
The Batmobile
For the first time, the Batmobile will be playable in the game. Players can use Batman’s signature ride in combat, or test their driving skills in obstacle course race tracks designed by the Riddler.
Dual Play
Another new gameplay feature is Dual Play, which allows players to seamlessly swap control of Batman for one of his sidekicks – including Catwoman, Robin and Nightwing – in combat and predator mode. For the first time, players will be able to experience what it means to play as a “Dynamic Duo” instead of just the lone Dark Knight.”
Harley Quinn, Red Hood, and Batgirl solo stories.
There are solo story missions available that allow players to control Harley Quinn, the Red Hood, or Batgirl. Access to these story mission is dependent on pre-ordering the game, where you pre-order from, and whether or not you want to purchase the Season Pass. Check out this handy fan video for details on how to get it all.
Scarecrow has united Batman’s rogues’ gallery.
The Joker’s death removed the most chaotic element of Gotham’s underworld, and left the surviving criminals feeling threatened and vulnerable. This provided Scarecrow with the opportunity to unite the remaining villains in an attempt to finally kill the Batman (and Jim Gordon seems to think they succeed, according to the first TV spot for the game). The villains that have joined up under Scarecrow include the Penguin, Two-Face, Harley Quinn, the Riddler, Firefly, and Poison Ivy.
The Arkham Knight
Backing Scarecrow’s play for power is the Arkham Knight himself. The mysterious figure brings his own private army to the war for Gotham, but is a force to be reckoned with himself, with a seemingly extensive expertise in tactical, weapons, and hand-to-hand combat. He wears the emblem and colors of Arkham Asylum and, despite Rocksteady continually insisting that he is an entirely original character, fans suspect there may be a familiar face under his helmet.
Azrael is back
The mysterious vigilante-knight Azrael returns to see through the prophecy he revealed to Batman in Arkham Knight. Whether that puts him on Batman’s side or the Arkham Knight’s is still unknown.
Oracle gets screen time
Oracle’s voice has been heard in previous games, but Barbara Gordon will appear on screen for the first time in Arkham Knight, another soldier in Batman’s war for Gotham.
Batman: Arkham Knight releases June 23.
