As part of the company's announcement that Charlie Cox will be playing Matt Murdock, Marvel released a short synopsis of the upcoming Daredevil Netflix television series. From the announcement:

Blinded as a young boy but imbued with extraordinary senses, Matt Murdock fights against injustice by day as a lawyer, and by night as the super hero Daredevil in modern day Hell's Kitchen, New York City.

The synopsis is pretty basic and probably could have been given by anyone who has ever read an issue of Daredevil, but it does specifically state that Daredevil exists in modern day Hell's Kitchen, dispelling rumors that the series may take place in the 1970s. Cox was official announced as Matt Murdock just yesterday, following Drew Goddard stepping down as showrunner over the Memorial Day weekend and being replaced by Steven S. DeKnight. Daredevil will be the first of five planned Netflix original series that also include series based on Jessica Jones, Luke Cage and Iron Fist, plus a crossover series that will see the four character become the Marvel Cinematic Universe's version of the Defenders. Daredevil will premiere on Netflix in 2015.
