Fans of Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. are anxiously awaiting the series’ third season, following the exciting end to Season 2. Some Marvel Comics fans suspect the folder Agent Coulson handed to Skye, labelled “Caterpillars,” indicates the series will be heading in the direction of Jonathan Hickman and Stefano Caselli’s Secret Warriors comic book series. It seems star Clark Gregg had the same thought.
In the video interview with Hey U Guys embedded below, Gregg was asked what fans can expect from Season 3 of Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. Gregg made clear that he doesn’t actually know anything, and that writers are still solidifying plans for the season, but he has a theory.
“The rogue element of the Inhumans has been, more or less, defeated,” Gregg says, “and it seems like Coulson is trying to bring his beloved Skye, who is more or less fully realized as Quake, into a new super-secret team of powered agents, which very much sounds like something I know from the comics as Secret Warriors, which is very exciting because it’s a really cool kind of rogue – not in the bad way – but quiet part of S.H.I.E.L.D.”
Gregg goes on to say that the Secret Warriors got involved with the events of Civil War, which isn’t accurate. We think he’s mistaking Civil War with Secret Invasion and Dark Reign, which are the events that the team made its debut in.
Regardless, Secret Warriors was a very good comic that had Daisy “Quake” Johnson, Nick Fury’s protege, leading a cell of young, powered agents H.A.M.M.E.R., Hydra and Leviathan. Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. has already been inspired, in small ways, by Secret Warriors, with Coulson essentially taking the role of Daisy’s mentor from Fury, so it will be exciting to see the Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. possibly take that inspiration even further.
Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. will return for Season 3 on ABC this fall.
