Wrath

This is just speculation; we have no source claiming it or anything crazy like that. Just having a little fun with a couple of disparate pieces of information that could fit together if DC wanted to go this way.

At the end of last week, DC Comics released a series of images via their blog, The Source, introducing a New 52 iteration of the famed Captain Marvel/Shazam villains the Seven Deadly Sins. Maybe we're a little bit slow lately, because it took us until now to realize that one of the sins was Wrath and that, therefore, there will be two supervillains named Wrath being rolled out by DC over the next few months. Which seems kind of weird. Of course, it would be a little less weird if Shazam weren't appearing side-by-side with Batman in Trinity War and existed in his own corner of the universe--you know, like he did for a number of years before he was forcefully integrated into the DC Universe proper following the Crisis on Infinite Earths.

Wrath1

This might be a pretty absurd reason for us to suspect a return to that old status quo--after all, the Wrath over in Batman is being treated as a major, stand-alone villain who will be a key player in the Bat-titles in the near future. The Wrath of the Seven Deadly Sins fame will more likely than not never appear without his partners. Plus, both of the characters have existed in previous iterations before, meaning that DC already had two characters called Wrath. Still, there is Grant Morrison's Multiversity story to consider; in that tale, it's been rumored that the old "Earth-S," home to the Marvel Family (can we still call them that?), will be one of the worlds that's given a bit of attention and some TLC in the story, which is in part designed to help rebuild DC's Multiverse. The multiverse, of course, was reintroduced at the end of 52 but, in the five years since, has never really been used very effectively. It appeared during Countdown to Final Crisis (and Final Crisis), but there it was used mostly as "a place where we can break things and kill people without having it dramatically impact continuity." With Earth-S back in play and Shazam not really finding a role for himself yet despite having appeared in Justice League and Justice League of America for quite some time now, don't be surprised to see him taking his Wrath and going home.
