According to The Wrap, Elle Fanning, Olivia Cooke and Lola Kirke are being eyed for the female lead in Steven Spielberg's next film, Ready Player One.
The Wrap reports:
Insiders insist it’s early in the casting process and that casting director Ellen Lewis is narrowing the field for Spielberg so he can move quickly once he’s able to turn his attention away from “Bridge of Spies” and “The BFG.” Two other actresses are believed to be on the initial shortlist, though their identities remain a mystery.
They are said to be competing for the role of Art3mis (avatar of Samantha Evelyn Cook), a world famous gunter (someone(s) that searches for Halliday's Easter Eggs), who is known for her intelligence, independence, and boldness.
Fanning, 17, is best known for her roles in We Bought A Zoo and Maleficent. Cooke, 21, has been earning rave reviews for her performance in the heartwarming feature film Me and Earl and the Dying Girl. Kirke, 24, is on the rise with memorable roles in Gone Girl and Mozart in the Jungle.
Ready Player One, based on the 2011 novel by Ernest Cline, follows a teenager who hunts for treasures hidden in virtual reality, Oasis, that is left behind by Oasis’ deceased creator. But as the teenager begins cracking the reality’s trippy puzzles and clues, he finds that other, more malicious hunters are also on the treasure’s trail, and will kill anyone who stands in their way.
