Season 4 is right around the corner and HBO's Game of Thrones Ice and Fire: A Foreshadowing will offer a preview of things to come. We decided to offer a sort of preview of our own, a list of the five characters that you should pay the most attention to in the coming season because there are big things in store for them. A note on spoilers: I am working with knowledge of the future, since I have read the books, but I do not present any specific spoilers in the list. However, if you're extremely sensitive to being influenced prior to viewing the show, then the list itself could be seen as a kind of vague spoiler. You've been warned.

Jon Snow

Jon Snow - This one is a little obvious, but Jon Snow has a big season in front of him. War is coming to the wall, and that's only the beginning for the Stark bastard. Things are going to be falling on Jon's shoulders that he hadn't expected, something that Kit Harington has hinted at in interviews, and Jon's place in the world will be changed by the end of Season 4.

Daenerys Targaryan

Daenerys Targaryan - You mean we should keep an eye on the conquering queen with the dragons? Yes, again, this one is obvious, but Daenerys is another character who will undergo some serious changes before the send of Season 4. So far, she has stomped around the Eastern continent, freeing city-states as she sees fit. Expect to see the tides change a bit for her by season's end.

Petyr Baelish - Petyr Baelish is a sly one, and Tyrion has always questioned his ambitions. But even Tyrion, clever as he is, has never been able to quite figure out the inscrutable Littlefinger. Petyr starts making some serious moves in Season 4, as his plans become a little clearer and certain astounding revelations about some of his past involvements come to light.

Varys

Varys - The Spider is another character who always seems to be up to something, but it's never entirely clear what or for whom. This season, Varys will make some of his boldest moves yet and they will have serious consequences for more than one character in King's Landing.

stannis-baratheon

Stannis Baratheon - Stannis' war against the Lannisters may not be going as well as he would like, but that doesn't mean he won't have a big role to play in the coming season. His choices will affect the lives of many across the continent of Westeros and where he ends this season could be quite different then where he begins. Game of Thrones Season 4 premieres on April 6, 2014 on HBO.
