Ever since CBS announced that it was producing a Supergirl television series, fans have clamored for confirmation that it would (or wouldn't) in exist in the same CW universe as Flash and Arrow.

After all, all three shows are executive-produced by Greg Berlanti, and The CW is co-owned by CBS. While those factors don't necessarily make a guarantee, it does give Supergirl a better chance than other farmed-out DC shows like Gotham.

IGN was able to track down Berlanti at the Television Critics Association press tour this past weekend for an update on the series' potential crossover with the CW's Universe. Berlanti gave an answer that's as cagey as they come, unfortunately, but he doesn't give a definite "no" either.

Here's what he had to say on the subject of Kara Zor-El teaming with Oliver Queen and Barry Allen:

"So much has to go right for us to be able to make a great show. Again, I think of myself as like if I were watching them, I would want to see that. But we have to get so many things right to make a good show and so much of it is luck, unfortunately."

It sounds like Berlanti isn't immediately discounting the possibility, he also doesn't want to make any promises this early in Supergirl's development. He certainly seems to want it, though, which is a positive sign.

And while Supergirl may not feature the Flash in a possible episode, it will certainly carry his optimistic spirit. Berlanti revealed that the series will skew closer towards The Flash's lighter tone than Arrow's gritty one. He also added that casting announcements should hit soon.

CBS's Supergirl will follow Kara Zor-El in her early twenties as she embraces her Kryptoninan heritage to become Earth's protector. CBS has already given an official commitment to the series, which is expected to start filming in 2015.
