Superman shaving

Yesterday, we brought you a series of videos wherein Kevin Smith, Bill Nye, Mayim Bialik and the Mythbusters theorized as to how Superman shaves. The discussion, of course, was prompted by Gillette, who have a promotional tie-in with the upcoming Zack Snyder-directed reboot Man of Steel, in which Clark Kent is depicted as having had a beard before he was Superman. While Gillette's ad campaign sparked a lot of conversation, many of our readers were quick to point out that the comics have been showing Superman shaving for years, generally by bouncing his heat vision off of a reflective surface like a mirror or, in some versions, a piece of the rocketship that brought him to Earth. Apparently, the comic book version of Jor-El instructed Kal-El in the art of removing his invulnerable facial hair while the Russell Crowe version--himself the owner of a fairly impressive beard--didn't see it as a priority. In any event, the panel at right, taken from this week's Adventures of Superman #5 by Joshua Hale Fialkov and Joelle Jones, certainly seems well-timed...
