Right before the Christmas holidays, AMC made one expected announcement and one unexpected announcement. AMC revealed that The Walking Dead would be returning for a fourth season, but without showrunner Glen Mazzara. As a result of the announcement, Son of Anarchy's Kurt Sutter, who is a friend of Glen Mazzara, traded barbs via Twitter with Walking Dead creator Robert Kirkman. While things died down for a couple days, Kurt Sutter now looks to get in the last word with a twelve minute YouTube video. In the video, Kurt Sutter walks through what it means to be a showrunner on a television series. He also throws some more barbs at Robert Kirkman and makes some predictions on the future of The Walking Dead. In regards to Kirkman, Kurt Sutter said, "The Walking Dead has now fired two visionaries. They have Kirkman now who owns the property. Robert is an amazing visual artist and a graphic artist. He knows very little about TV. And the reigns keep going back to him in this process, and he doesn't know how to run a show." In regards to the future of The Walking Dead, Kurt Sutter predicted that AMC wouldn't even hire a showrunner for The Walking Dead. His sense was that they would throw a bunch of executives at the show and elevate some poor sap on the writing staff. Kurt Sutter said, "Will that work? Yeah, it will work for a minute. I think in season four when this will all happen the numbers will be big and people will show up. Will it continue to do well? No, my sense is that without somebody like a Glen Mazzara running that show, eventually it will lose focus and the narratives will run out of steam and it won't be able to build off of itself and it will suffer. That's my opinion."
