Old Wounds

Korra and her friends are having breakfast with Suyin and her family. Su Lin offers to teach Korra to metalbend. Opal offers Bolin as well, but he passes. Varric test out his magnetic armor.

Lin comes to Zhao Fu to check the security. The truth seer tells her she needs to relax. He offers to send her to an acupuncturist.

Zaheer tells his gang they're leaving Republic City. They find a shipping truck and accost the driver.

At the acupuncturist, Lin has trouble relaxing. He warns her that the therapy may awaken buried memories. She remembers coming home to find Suyin hanging out with thieves when they were kids. They squabble and Suyin leaves with her friend.

Suyin begins training Korra. Bolin is caught spying on them. He's intimidated by Korra's aptitude.

Lin remembers a car chase in republic city. It's Suyin and her friends in the suspect's car. She wakes up and flings the acupuncture needles off of her, and leaves despite the acupuncturist's warning not to.

Lin is back in her room and Korra comes in, but she sees her as young Suyin. She goes back to the acupuncturists, who continues the session. She remember having a standoff with Suyin after the car chase. Lin uses her metal chord to grab Suyin's arm. Suyin cuts it and whips back at Lin, giving her the scars on her face.

In Republic City, the truck driver is nervously driving with the criminals in the back of the truck, but he's stopped a checkpoint and forced to open the back of the truck. The criminals throw off the guards and use their bending to escape over the bridge.

Bolin is secretly trying to metalbend, but he's not having any luck. Opal shows up behind him. He reveals that he can't figure out how to metalbend and doesn't know how. He's embarrassed. She says Bolin should stop being afraid and train with Suying, and Bolin turns the table and points out that she is afraid to leave for the Northern Air Temple.

Lin remembers Toph covering up Suyin's crime and sending her to live with her grandparents. Lin wakes up and leaves the acupuncturist.

Suyin and Korra are training. Korra has picked up metalbending pretty well. Bolin shows up and tells Suyin he would like to train, but then Lin shows up.

Suyin and Lin argue about what happened with Toph after the incident. Lin blames Suyin for ending Toph's career, but Suyin says she and her mother worked things out years ago. Suyin brings up Tenzin breaking up with Lin, and then they begin fighting. The fight continues until Opal breaks them up and Lin passes out from exhaustion.

Korra, Mako and Bolin knock on Lin's door after much hesitation. She was sleeping for 16 hours and wakes up surprising calm and finally out of her uniform. Lin sits to eat and sees Opal walking by and calls her in. She apologizes for snapping at her before. Lin encourages Suyin to go to the Northern Air Temple, sharing how she lived her own life entirely to please her mother and that was a mistake.

Opal goes to talk to her parents.

Suyin finds Lin staring at a statue of Toph. Suyin says Opal has decided to leave for the Temple. They make amends.

Outside the city, the criminals are discussing how to find Korra. Zaheer awakes from meditation and says she's with the Metal Clan.

Original Airbenders

Tenzin is telling bored airbenders tales of past air nomads. Bum plays class clown. They see a herd of air bison flying by. Tenzin's family shows up with more airbenders. They tell Tenzin about Zaheer and the necklace he stole. Korra calls on the radio.

Korra tells Tenzin about Lin, Su and Opal. Tenzin tells her things aren't going well, and Korra encourages him to rely more on his family.

Jinora and Kai decide to fly out towards the bison. They spot some baby bisons on the ground and Kai approaches, angering the mother. She charges and Jinora saves him. Kai asks why she doesn't have tattoos yet when she's so good at airbending, and she says her father says she's not a master yet. Kai disagrees, saying she's even better than Tenzin is.

Tenzin finds Bumi and asks for help leading the new benders. He encourages him to use military discipline.

Tenzin busts into the benders' sleeping quarters at dawn and wakes them with a horn.

Tenzin continues to use "military discipline" on the benders," making them meditate instead of going back to sleep, and then beginning training in earnest. Kai tries to get Jinora to sneak away, but she refuses. Jinora tells Tenzin that he's pushing too hard, but he refuses to listen. Bumi finally breaks and walks away, frustrating Tenzin and leading him to try to pass the class off to Jinora. Jinora brings up the tattoos and when he refuses, she storms off as well.

Kai finds Jinora and apologizes for getting her in trouble, but she says it's not his fault. They fly off to visit the bay bison, but they and all the spirits are gone. They are ambushed and kidnapped and brought to a camp in the woods.

Tenzin mediates and his wife comes and encourages him not to give up.

Tenzin goes and apologizes to Bumi, but he refuses to talk to him. He asks about Jinora and is told she flew off with Kai.

The men who captured Jinora and Kai are hunters who are poaching bison to sell in Ba Sing Sei. Jinora sends a message through a spirit.

The spirit flies back to the temple and alerts Bumi. Bumi rounds up the other benders and leads them on a rescue mission. The benders are hesitant, but Bumi gives a rousing speech and leads them into a fight with the hunters.

Kai picks the lock on his cage and starts fighting with the hunters as the other benders join him. They beat most of the hunters, but one takes off with Jinora's cage. Kai follows and Tenzin sees them and catches up. The bison stop the truck and the hunter.

Tenzin and Bumi make amends, then Tenzin and Jinora do the same. Tenzin agrees to think about the tattoos.
